Believe it or not, there is even more to learn about Knox County history.
Some of it can be found at the websites below:

Ohio Memory: An Online Scrapbook

A gigantic database of photographs and related information submitted by historical organizations in all of Ohio's 88 counties.

Many of the nearly 250 Knox County items shown on their website came from our own Museum collections.  To browse them all,  CLICK HERE.

Chronicling America: The Library of Congress Digitized Newspaper Collection

A dream has come true now that we can do detailed online searches for the period from 1910 through 1922 in Mount Vernon's newspaper, The Democratic Banner, which is among the 1000's of American newspapers which have been digitized in part through a joint project of the Ohio History Connection and the Library of Congress.

Searches can be done in a single paper, all papers in a state, or in the entire gigantic collection all at once. The search procedure takes a little getting used to, but is well worth the effort. Using the "Advanced Search" feature seems to yield even better results.

A remarkable resource that yields amazingly accurate results.  To visit their website, CLICK HERE

Doing Book and Author Searches

For those researching particular authors or their books, two websites have been most helpful here.

My favorite after many years is still the "Used and Out of Print" section in the website called "AddALL."  Users can enter search information in the usual way, or can just enter the author's name alone to find all the books published, or just one book title if you like, or even add a keyword search feature to limit the number of hits. Their database contains "millions of books listed by more than 20,000 booksellers."Quite a saving in travel expenses for us bookhunters.

The best part is that you can sort the results alphabetically, or by price (low-to-high for most of us, or high-to-low for those seeking pristine copies), and even better, you can exclude most of those "print-on-demand" and e-books from the search as well if you choose.
Have a look at AddALL by  CLICKING HERE.

And if you haven't spent all your money at AddALL, you might like to try  BOOKFINDER.COM, which adds the ability to sort all the search hits into individual folders by book title and listed in order by price, low to high, although it lacks some of AddALL's nicer features. Sometimes one suits better than the other. Have fun!

 The Ohio History Connection

Known to us in earlier times as The Ohio Historical Society, this outstanding facility houses a remarkable collection on any topic relating to Ohio's past. Their website is very much up to date and provides plenty of useful information even if you are unable to visit their headquarters in downtown Columbus. To have a look at what's available,  CLICK HERE.

Ohio Local History Alliance

The premiere organization for local historical society and museum people in Ohio.
They are always eager to "inspire, connect, and educate you" about Ohio history, and their website features contact information for every imaginable history group that you might be seeking.
